Short description of the idbase Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most frequent skin cancer in the white population. BCCs mostly occur sporadically in relation to sun exposure, although their incidence is increased significantly in some rare genetic disorders. Variations within the C-terminal SH2 domain (C-SH2) of the GTPase activating protein RasGAP have also been found in a subset of BCCs. RasGAP acts by enhancing the intrinsic GTPase activity of Ras, leading to the hydrolysis of bound GTP to GDP and down-regulation of Ras activity.
